THE music mogul once hailed as proof of new Labour’s “Cool Britannia” credentials has gone cold on Gordon Brown and says he thinks David Cameron would do a better job.

Alan McGee, who discovered Oasis, thinks the Tory leader is better equipped to lead Britain out of the recession than the “f****** diabolical” prime minister and his party of “retards”.

McGee, who donated more than £100,000 to Labour, was among the celebrities who attended a No 10 victory party in 1997. He also served on Tony Blair’s arts quango, the creative industries taskforce.

“I hope Labour get f****** stuffed the way they’ve f***** this country up. They’re a bunch of retards,” McGee, 48, founder of Creation Records, told The Sunday Times.

He had given a hint of his anger on Simon Mayo’s show on BBC Five Live, saying: “I probably trust David Cameron to get us out of the economic crisis more than Gordon Brown. I hate to say that because I hate the Tories, but it’s time for a change.”

Afterwards, he was less diplomatic: “Do I think Cameron would do a better job? Undoubtedly. Could the Tories do any worse than this bunch of cretins that we’ve got in now? Labour are monumentally useless. Gordon Brown has had a charisma bypass. For all Blair’s faults, Blair had charisma. He was a leader, a winner. Gordon Brown is none of these things. He’s a f****** diabolical prime minister and the country is in a mess.”

McGee accused Brown of being partly responsible for the economic crisis by failing to tighten the regulation of Britain’s financial services while he was chancellor.

“Governments are good for 10 years, then you’ve got to change. At the last general election I voted Liberal Democrat. This time I don’t think I’ll even vote.”

Downing Street declined to comment.
