WE SAY: "I read the news today, oh boy." So begins A Day In The Life, one of the many great musical offerings by The Beatles, which was inspired by real-life newspaper articles.

Matthew Herbert Big Band has gone one better with this political statement, which samples its lyrics from several media, such as copies of The Sun, countless celebrity gossip magazines and NME in a bid to create a political narrative through the medium of music. Ironically, the messages at play seem to include the mocking of the shallowness of the media itself. See what he did there?

The Story opts for a one-note, simplistic tune that allows the lyrics to really speak for themselves. Matthew Herbert Big Band's album, There's Me And There's You, aims to put across a strong political directive too, commenting on the theme of "power and its abusers in the 21st Century". We wonder if Chris Martin or Bono wish they had thought of Herbert's idea first?
