Comrades, it is time to reclaim the lounge. The Wii Fit has had a first-class run, but now is the moment for couch potatoes to band together and turn the country's living spaces back into hubs of lethargy. We will be up against flatmates/lovers/kids who have become addicted to lunges and leg extensions, which is where the terribly funny but entirely persuasive Wii Fit Parody (tinyurl.com/2fqakh) comes in. Exercise bunnies and healthy-living types will instantly reassess their Wii Fit devotion when forced to face facts: “Wii Fit is bringing families out of the backyard and putting them back in front of the television.”
Tim Nolan should also examine the time he devotes to fitness-related activities. At tinyurl.com/4uzmj7, the man uses a basketball in a way that defies all odds and, at times, gravity. A paunchy fellow who teams white, mid-calf socks with brown shoes, Nolan is the last person you would imagine could sink a ball by kicking it at a wall to rebound it clean through the hoop. His other trick? Successfully hurling the ball at the goal from behind a small building, with his line of vision obscured.
You have to wonder what a middle-aged man, fond of elastic-waisted polyester pants and American flag T-shirts thinks of the young basketball fans his clip has attracted. Comments posted below the YouTube video include, “OMG extremely sick!” and “Oldie can ball!”
The days of online shopping seeming a novelty are long gone. If only stores would follow the lead of the Dutch retailing chain Hema, it might feel exciting again. The department store has cooked up a stellar animation involving an array of its products. Check it out at http://producten.hema.nl/.
