The second year of this annual Award, to find the UK’s Landscape Photographer of the Year, again received thousands of entries highlighting the very best of our varied country. The winning images will premier this autumn in a stunning free exhibition at London’s National Theatre from November 18th.
The overall winner has been decided and the top prize of £10,000 goes to Gary Eastwood for a picture of his dog, Barney, enjoying the winter elements on Hove seafront.
The 2008 Awards are supported by The Sunday Times Magazine together with the leading tourist agencies of the UK & Channel Islands – Enjoy England, Visit Wales, VisitScotland, VisitBritain, Britain on View, VisitGuernsey, Jersey Tourism, and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.
This support has allowed news of the competition to reach all corners of the nation and entries were received from places as geographically diverse as the Shetland Isles and the Isle of Wight. The final results have proved that there is certainly beauty and interest to be had wherever you travel.
Charlie Waite, one of Britain’s best-loved landscape photographers and founder of Take a view, said: “Having seen the standard of this year’s entries first-hand, I cannot wait to see the exhibition. The National Theatre is an amazing venue and the support we have received from Epson will help to ensure that the winning images are seen at their very best.”
A nine-week exhibition of the winning entries will be held at the Lyttelton exhibition foyer, National Theatre, London SE1 9PX, from 18 November 2008 to 17 January 2009. The 2008 book, Landscape Photographer of the Year – Collection 02 (AA Publishing, £25) will be published on 31 October and is available at the BooksFirst price of £22.50, including postage and packing.
