If you narrowly miss your conditional offers, ring your chosen universities immediately to see if they will give you a place anyway. Many will.

If you are rejected, you are eligible automatically for clearing and will be sent a “clearing passport” by Ucas, with a reference number to quote.

Draw up a list of prospective courses from the Ucas website and research them thoroughly before making a direct approach to your favoured university or college.

Be prepared to sell yourself to an admissions officer, explaining what interests you about the course and what you would bring to it.

Ring the university yourself and do not take the first offer of a place unless you are certain that it is the right choice. Visit the campus and department if you can.

Once you have found and accepted a place, send your completed passport to the university to complete theofficial procedures and trigger arrangements about accommodation, loans and any bursaries to which you may be entitled.
