Herne Hill is a pearl nestled between Brixton and Dulwich. It doesn't have the Tube, but you know what? We don't care. Lying only 10 minutes from Victoria by train and with all the community charm of a country village, Herne Hill has more to offer than meets the eye. With writers like Shelley Silas and Stella Duffy as your neighbours, Herne Hill is a fairytale for first-time buyers. Crouch end, with its village feel and abundance of open spaces is notorious as the homeplace of many musicians, actors and writers. Recently, it has become a playground to another set of residents too as many young couples see it as the place to start a family. We look at family homes with price tags ranging from £250,000 to £2.5 million. With housing covered, we take a look inside whole food store Haelan, the Pilates Place and local boutique, Scarecrow, in search of the secret to looking and living well in Crouch End. It all comes down to market values in SE1, and I’m not just talking about the famous Borough Market, we take a look into a property market that hosts 17th century converted warehouses alongside 21st century apartments. Its proximity to the City and great assortment of bars and restaurants is drawing many young bankers eager to set foot on the property ladder; we ask is Hoxton more Banker than Banksy? Smithfield:

The words Meat and Market were never so well suited to each other as in Smithfield, home to 8 year old club Fabric and of course the 800 year old Smithfield market; there’s plenty of flesh to get your teeth into. We checked out the Smithfield property scene and found a number of pads with price tags starting at £220,000 for a studio apartment; expect to pay anything from £500,000 to £900,000 for a two-bedroom property. We played culture vulture for the day with our friends in the Barbican and found learned how they connect with kids through poetry. Hungry for more, we whet our appetites at Vic Naylor, a restaurant bar popular with Jude Law and essentially anyone who enjoys a late night beer.
