Skye is a patchwork quilt of contrasting scenes, from the staggeringly high cliffs dropping to the sea at Moonen bay, to the gentle sands at Ashaig where you might catch a razor clam when the tide is out, with the high, rounded hills beyond Broadford behind you. In Trottarnish is a chain of hills, smooth on one side, sheer dropsand tortured jagged rocks on the other, where you can see across the Sound of Raasay to distant massive Mountains called Liathach and Beinn Alligean.
At Taliskeir is a beach reminscent of Tahiti (pity the climate usually isn't): and along a rocky coast is Coruisg, that cauldron of gabbro whose walls are up to three thousand feet high, where Victorian tourists came to meditate on the word 'sublime'. And when you leave, go by the narrow twisting road to Kylerhea - you might, briefly, think you were in the Himalayas, before arriving at the sloping concrete ferry slip and the narrow strait across to Glenelg, through which strong tidal currents sluice.
